The Benefits of Exercise Bikes

There are many types of used stationary bikes designed to suit the needs of many health conscious people. They are all different from each other in one way or other. They all have different resistance mechanism, seat types and accessories.

Types

Resistance mechanisms include magnets, friction belts, fans or hydraulic systems. Seat types can either be upright, semi-recumbent or sometimes laying down in horizontal position. There are certain plugins which convert normal road bikes or bicycles to stationary bikes. Most modern stationary bikes come equipped with computer controls. This computer helps to measure data like calories burned, time, speed and distance among other things. The equipment's computer is commonly known as ergometer. This is a very useful device which helps the user to reach certain goals and distances on the bike. There are certain stationary bikes that allow backward pedaling which remarkably increases the performance of an individual by countering normal muscle movement.

Benefits

1. Stationary bikes are great for aerobic fitness.
2. Exercise bikes can be used in medical therapy especially for cardiovascular therapy.
3. Used stationary bikes are particularly beneficial in weight reduction.
4. Many exercise bikes can fit into small spaces where normal fitness equipment can't fit.
5. Bikes work the largest muscles in the body, most notably the quadriceps and hamstrings.

Important Aerobic Machines to Know

Many of us love to exercise outside, and often that is convenient and possible, but not always. It may be cold, raining, dark, or otherwise not ideal, and there are lots of different fitness machines at gyms and health clubs you can use. Here are three you should be familiar with.

The Treadmill. Treadmills are great because almost anyone can use them and you can have an easy workout or a very intense one. For starters, most people can walk, and walking on a tread mill is self explanatory. You can also adjust the angle so you are walking uphill. Of course, you can also have a run ranging from an easy jog to an intense sprint. The display is great as it can tell you exactly how far you've run or walked and also how fast you are going. It always amazes me how the same speed run will feel very fast and difficult some days yet slow and easy others! The display helps keep you honest, something that may be more difficult when walking or running outside.

The Stationary Bike. Stationary exercise bikes are nice for many reasons, one being that you get to sit down and still exercise, something to think about after a long day of work or play. They come in different varieties, which are basically recline models or upright models. An upright one is just like a normal bike except that of course you are not moving. With a recline bike, you normally sit down lower and your legs and feet are in front of you. One of the things I love about exercise bikes is that I find it easier to read on one as compared to other exercise machines.

The Rowing Machine. Rowing Machines are not for the weak of mind as they deliver an intense full body workout. They are lesser known and used than other machines but most gyms have one or more. Some of my most intense workouts have been on rowing machines, but I'll admit I need to be psyched to get on one because I always seem to go all out on them,

So which is best? Do I have a favorite? I typically alternate my machines. For example I've been using the treadmill the last few weeks but will eventually bore with it and move on to another machine. Some people like to use a different machine every workout. They give you a great workout, so there is no overall best; although it's fine if you prefer one over the others.

Can You Lose Weight on an Exercise Bike?

If weight loss is on your mind, rest assured that stationary bikes are the ideal choice. Stationary bikes have innumerable advantages and few of them are as follows:

• Ideal for excessively overweight people
• Convenient home gym equipment
• Different level settings enable vigorous training to develop fitness.
• Stationary exercise bike is foldable; thereby enabling easy handling.

What's more, in addition to assisting in weight loss and body toning; the exercise bike is meant to provide support to the back. Regular use of the exercise bike strengthens the leg, thigh muscles and the hamstrings in the back of the thigh. The health benefits of using an exercise bike to keep fit are therefore very significant.

You may ideally buy an exercise cycle best suited for you or hit the nearest gym. Various online marts cater to different fitness equipments and this is by far, the easiest means to shop. If going for a morning jog or walk appears to be a herculean task; then opt for the simple yet resourceful choice- the exercise bike. Get hold of one and kick start your exercise regime.
